Table For Two
Writer : Ronald Wong
(after Revelations 3:20)
Freshest beef simmered in slow oven With sauteed onions, beans and barley Over thirty-three hours of fire For the cholent is finally ready. Eggplants, bell peppers and tomatoes Strewn precisely with grilled chicken Cut exactly to mouth-sized cubes, Lay waiting with the sweet-sour dip. Coal from the tandoor has extinguished. The golden naan is losing its crisp And the yoghurt is turning lukewarm While the achar is preserved in the dish. Kung pao chicken is left unwrapped in Its roasted paper bundle. A tug Of the string and it will unravel With it the crispy brown skinned Peking duck. Salmon sashimi slices have been Marinated and cut with fine skill. Steam from the miso soup is fading Away into the darkening evening. Two glasses of chardonnay are filled. Candles have been lit long ago. The table is set and all is ready, But where is the knock on Your door?
