A Blind Man Can See How Much I Love You
Writer : Ng Xiao Yee
I wish you could remember that first day
First moment, first hour of your meeting me,
The fat flakes of incomprehension fall,
I spoke to you, but you did not hear at all,
I called you, you greeted someone else,
I touched you, you remain engaged
in voluble discourse, a square of happiness entirely
knowing too well and yet not knowing at all
that I was near
How evasive is your humor, how accidental the barest touch,
how permanent are the glances you give chase to others
right from the start
my greatest comfort is invisble
though I want to be near
The world is suddenly plural,
you chose other things instead of me,
To a melting world of things being various
You know, one day
I went on my way by the roadside,
Two blind men stopped me by
One cried out, the others silenced him,
In the sun born over and over,
he received his sight
He pipes the world awake
Shouted my name, when I knew his name
Bartimaeus
And now everything to him
is visible.
What still lids up your eyes to me?
In the sun that is always rising,
I should hear you fly
and wake to me
Shape my images around your songs
Lip me the softest call
I would surely hear you
You could not know
what swift flying I would make to you
Let us speak
think of those days not long dead
Quickly, give me a hint
you could follow
where I could go
