I Am Who I Am
Writer : Dr Ng Kian Seng
"Any Name of God I invent Is but a metaphor of my own need."
A particle of sand, when asked to name The sea, said, "He is the One Who washes me with baptismal waters Again and again." And his eyes, glazed orbs, Scanned the near waters from shore To anchored ship searching For the next wave to lap the shore.
We ask for His Name. And a Babel Of voices, high pitched, lyrical, tells us It is a prefix to every man's needs, God-the-Genie-of-my-Aladdin's-Lamp, God-my-Miracle-Worker, God-my-Divine-Healer, God-my-Storehouse-Keeper. It is no longer as in the beginning, The ancients locked His Name in the ark Of their minds and then in confession box whispers Told and retold the story of Uzzah.
A particle of sand, when asked to name The sea, said, "He Is Who He Is." And his eyes, starry globes, scanned the far waters From the visible to the invisible Horizon, searching for a Tsunami.
